City Councilor Bart Hansen announced Thursday that he will run to retain his seat on the Vancouver City Council.
Hansen, 35, was appointed in January to fill Position 4, the seat vacated by Mayor Tim Leavitt.
Though he’s been on the council for just six weeks, he said he’s sure that he wants to remain in the position.
“I’m absolutely positive and excited to do this. It’s an opportunity to give back to the community once again,” Hansen said.
Hansen, a Vancouver native, is the Office Services Manager at Clark Public Utilities. He lives with his wife, Carly, and their two young children in the Minnehaha neighborhood.
Prior to being appointed by the council, Hansen ran for the seat vacated by retired Councilor Pat Jollota, but lost in the August primary. Councilor Jack Burkman ultimately won the position.
Hansen said he ran his last campaign on $600. This time, he plans to work to raise funds.
“That will allow me to get my message out to a lot more people and communicate to a lot more citizens,” he said.
Hansen coaches football, baseball and basketball. He is a member of the Clark County Mural Society, Police and Fire Pension Board and Vancouver School District Management Advisory Task Force. He is also a member of Downtown Vancouver Rotary and a graduate of Leadership Clark County.
He has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Washington State University and is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration from Marylhurst University.
